Dominique, le papa, est professeur d’histoire. Narrateur exceptionnel, il traverse l’histoire contemporaine du Québec et démystifie les fameux accommodements raisonnables. Chantal, la maman, est une Québécoise des Îles-de-la-Madeleine. Elle a des opinions très affirmées sur les “communautés étrangères”. Ming, la fille adoptive, est née en Chine. Elle pose des tas de questions à son papa, sur le racisme, l’homosexualité et tant d’autres sujets croustillants.
Marié à une féministe, nationaliste et avocate de métier (et non l’inverse), Dominique fait face à tous les paradoxes du pays qui l’accueille. Pourquoi tout le monde lui raconte des blagues sur les noirs, alors que les blondes sont si chatouilleuses sur leur réputation de niaiseuse ? Faisant fi de la rectitude politique du Canada, Dominique trouve autant de plaisir à répondre aux questions de sa charmante fille qu’à celles de ses bruyants élèves.
Lancée en 2005 sur les ondes québécoises, la série Pure laine s’est vue propulser en 2006 sur la 5e chaîne française, pour être ensuite diffusée sur le réseau international TV5. À la fois grinçant et divertissant, ce programme aborde avec justesse les paradoxes d’un pays qui recherche de la main-d’oeuvre étrangère et qui a tant de mal à l’intégrer. Faut dire que, pour un anthropologue, Télé-Québec est vraiment la chaîne à regarder. Ça me motive presque à regarder la télé!

J’avais découvert cette série en France. J’étais heureux de la retrouver sur TéléQuébec. Au sujet de cette chaine, je suis complètement d’accord avec toi Alexandre. Heureusement qu’elle existe, sinon la TV manquerait un peu d’intelligence.
Mais qui donc écrit ces merveilles? C’est une véritable leçon pour bien des auteurs francophones, qu’ils travaillent pour la télévision ou non. La série marche en tous cas en surmultipliée, elle propose des réponses d’une infinie drôlerie à des questions que nous ne pouvons pas, pour une raison ou pour une autre, commencer à articuler en France. C’est une véritable leçon de citoyenneté internationale, infiniment touchante qui plus est!
