Le festival Hot Docs de Toronto s’ouvre cette année sur un documentaire qui taille en pièce l’un des plus célèbres experts en la matière. Manufacturing Dissent critique vertement les procédés douteux que Michael Moore emploierait dans ses films.
L’une des oeuvres les plus marquantes du réalisateur est sans nul doute Bowling for Columbine. Dans ce film, l’important n’est pas la forme, mais plutôt les faits : la vente d’armes à feu en libre service aux États-Unis a permis à deux adolescents de perpétrer un massacre à l’intérieur du lycée Columbine.
Les événements de Virginia Tech viennent à nous rappeler que les armes automatiques, vendues au grand public, ne servent pour pas uniquement à chasser le bison dans les vastes plaines du Nord Dakota.
Un des responsables du groupe de pression des armes à feu de la Virginia Citizens Defense League, annonce que ces tueries sont une raison de plus pour armer les étudiants sur les campus, afin que ceux-ci puissent se défendre.
S’il y a une leçon à retenir du film de Michael Morre sur le sujet, c’est que la limitation des armes à feu et de la violence au Canada, permet à ce pays d’avoir un taux de criminalité bien inférieur à son voisin du sud.
Pourtant, le Canada n’a pas pu échapper à ce drame, avec la tuerie de Dawson qui avait secoué tout le pays en septembre 2006. Invité de l’émission québécoise Tout le Monde en Parle, Hayder Kadhim, un des étudiants survivants du carnage du lycée montréalais, est revenu ce soir sur les moments douloureux qu’il a vécu à l’époque.
Hayder s’exprime tout d’abord à travers sa musique, avec un titre de rap évocateur, “Survive Today”. Mais, ce jeune de 18 ans est surtout un militant anti-arme à feu. Il a interpellé Stephen Harper pour le forcer à maintenir le registre des armes, et à interdire la prolifération de celles-ci. Même si Hayder reste pessimiste sur les intentions du premier ministre, espérons que son action soit entendue pour que plus jamais pareil drame n’existe.

c’est comme pour les jumpers qui se tuent en sautant en face du métro. les médias d’un commun accord on décider de ne pas en parler lorsque cela se produit afin d’empecher les copy cats…
